Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Review: University Student

Some of you may be going to start your undergrad/grad studies this year or you may already be admitted to the university and probably immersed in your assignments. Anyway, I am a grad student at UTDallas. I have poured a lot of time on this post which is about my review on Microsoft Surface Pro 4 as a university student. So, if you are planning to change your laptop or  buy a laptop, you may consider this awesome product.

I bought Surface pro 4 as a bundle which includes

Go with the bundle, you will get much more benefits like bundle include one year protection warranty which assures that MS will replace the surface if any problem comes up. Last week, my surface pro 4 pen stopped working, so I called the customer service and got the replacement pen under the warranty contract. So, I think you got my point.

My Surface configurations are :
  • 6th Gen Intel Core i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM
  • 12.3-inch PixelSense touchscreen display
  • Surface Pen included
  • Windows 10 Pro

Benefits than other laptop so far:

1. MS has hugely improved the windows experience in Windows 10 and is pretty much evident after using this device because surface can serve as a tablet.( Windows 10 main aim was to have same OS for mobile, tablet and laptops.)

2. It is extensively portable device. I take it every day to my university with no trouble at all.

3. You can attach/detach the keyboard. So, it can be pleasantly used as a tablet. Moreover, it has got 5.0MP front-facing camera with 1080p HD video and 8.0MP rear-facing autofocus camera with 1080p HD video. So you can pretty much move around and have some photos, students can record lectures and prof wont even know.

4. The feature that make it comfortable to use at any position is its stand. The laptop stands has got the ingenious mechanical design which ensures high flexibility in the movements of stand. You can stretch it a little when you are in sitting position and stretch the stand more to make yourself at ease while doing work in lying position.

5. Now, the feature that I extensively use at university is the ability to write on it with the surface pen. The writing feature is pretty awesome for the university student because it is very easy to make notes on the surface. For instance, in one of the class, I detach the keyboard and use surface in tablet mode
( a feature of windows 10). while the prof. is dictating from the presentations, I highlight the important lines in the e-book with that pen/some time take notes.

6. Windows Hello Feature, unlocking the surface with face reorganization. It is kinda cool feature but don't know whether it makes a big difference or not.

That's what I think. Let me know any other exciting feature in the comments below.

  2. Thank you for your thoughtful review. I had already chosen to buy this one when my loans are disbursed, but now I am really sure, thanks! Plus, my husband has worked for Best Buy for 19 years, so I will get a decent discount, especially if I bundle, and Office 365 comes free in the bundle right now locally.

47 y/o mom returning to school at University of Oklahoma, daughter in same year, same school, but doing a semester at sea, (help! This campus is HUGE compared to the 3 (!!!) junior/community colleges I have attended since graduating from HS in 1989!) At least I have lived off campus in the same town as the college for more than 20 years.
I found this on a specific Google search for a review on the Surface Pro, dunno how else you would contact me otherwise, but email is Belinda.A.Clement-1@ou.edu
How is the battery life? I like to watch movies while I fall asleep, and spend a lot of time on FB and other forums, not sure how much time I will need it for classwork as I have a sweet all in one desktop Lenovo with a giant screen at home. My daughter has a Chromebook, and struggles a lot with how small the screen is, and I am old lady blind w/ bifocals. Can you rest your hand on the screen while using the pen? The vids I have seen by MS seem to have to hold their hand in midair, do you find this awkward?
